Homer Senior Housing Project

The Homer Senior Housing Project (HSHP) is named after our senior dog Homer who was pulled from a Texas shelter in November, 2020.  Homer was abandoned in horrible shape, emaciated, and suffering with Demodex Mange.  We placed Homer with one of our long term fosters who nursed him back to health by providing him with good food, medications, love, and a safe place to heal.

One year later, Homer was adopted by a very active and loving family in the Pacific Northwest but it was clear Homer, as a senior dog, needed a quieter and less active home environment and the Homer Senior Housing Project was developed.  Homer has been placed with a long term HSHP foster to live out the rest of his days. The foster has committed to Homer's long term care which included providing quality food, exercise, flea/tick/heartworm preventative, and a loving and safe environment.

* Being a HSHP foster takes a considerable amount of dedication, compassion, time, and commitment as well as the capability to handle difficulties that might arise with a large breed senior dog.

* The necessary characteristics of a foster include resourcefulness, adaptability, and the ability to deal with difficulties. 

* HSHP dogs will be placed in areas in the states where we have volunteer resources and where there is emergency and specialty veterinary care.  As of January 2022, Portland/Eugene, OR, Seattle/Tacoma, WA, Austin/Houston, TX.

* It will be difficult for the senior dogs to move once they are settled so please be fully committed before applying.
