Say hello to Chadwick! Chadwick is a 1.5 year old Pyrenees Mix and weighs approximately 60lbs. He was originally found as a stray in Texas, was adopted in Idaho, and is now a rescue-return looking for his true forever home. Chadwick is a typical male Pyrenees, and his forever home should have Pyrenees experience. He has a sensitive and gentle demeanor around people, but will do his part to patrol his environment and bark at new sounds, unfamiliar people etc. His favorite things are food, toys to play with, and human companionship. Chadwick loves his humans more than anything and has separation anxiety when they are gone. Because of this, he would do best in an environment where someone works from home and can be with him for most of the day.
Chadwick does well with other dogs as long as they are his size or larger. He does not do well with smaller dogs or dogs that try to take his toys away from him (will resource guard). Because Chadwick is dog selective, a meet-and-greet is preferred before going home with his new family. He is currently living in a foster home with 3 other large dogs and 2 cats. Chadwick is one of the pack and would benefit if his forever home had a large and confident resident dog. Chad is OK with cats, as long as the cats have a safe space to retreat to that he can’t get to. He is young and curious and is still learning how to coexist with cats.
Chadwick is potty trained, but in new environments he will need a decompression period with frequent bathroom breaks. When switching environments, his new family should be prepared to handle a sensitive stomach and a potential accident or two if he can’t get outside in time. Once he is settled in, this will go away. Chadwick has a very small mischievous side, and will test the rules if items like clothing, shoes, toilet paper rolls, toothbrushes etc. are left out and within reach. His forever family needs to understand that he is a very sensitive Pyr and does not take negative reinforcement well at all, so the easiest thing to prevent that will be to close doors and keep items out of reach.
Chadwick is a Velcro dog and will follow you around the house and sleep at your feet. He knows the command SIT and is fine on a leash. He craves interaction and affection, as well as positive reinforcement. If you are looking for the missing puzzle piece to your Pyr Pack, Chadwick is ready to fit right in and love you forever. Chadwick is currently being fostered in Boise, ID.
